Sylvia Rodriguez has built an accomplished career in aviation, spanning more than three decades with American Airlines. She began her journey in 1990 as a Passenger Service Gate Agent, where she quickly discovered her passion for customer experience and leadership. A few years later, she transferred to Boston (BOS), where she stepped into her first leadership role as a Customer Service Team Leader.
Her desire to broaden her expertise led her to Inflight, where she served as a Flight Service Manager, an experience that ignited her leadership trajectory. Sylvia was soon promoted to Base Manager in Boston, and later to manage the much larger JFK flight attendant base. While at JFK, she was recruited back into Customer Experience as Manager of Passenger Service, where her operational knowledge and leadership skills stood out. Her success in these roles ultimately led to her promotion to Managing Director of Inflight, overseeing the Miami Flight Attendant base as well as four Latin American bases. After years of supporting flight attendants, Sylvia returned to Customer Experience, serving as Managing Director for Customer Care in Miami. Today, she leads as Managing Director of JFK-T8 Operations, where she brings her extensive operational expertise, passion for teamwork, and commitment to excellence to one of American Airlines’ most complex and dynamic stations.
Sylvia’s story is one of resilience and determination. She is married and the proud mother of three daughters, and proud grandmother to four boys, with her first granddaughter on the way. Before joining American Airlines, she attended and graduated from an accredited travel school, where she built a strong foundation in the travel and tourism industry. She later continued her education at Miami Dade Community College, further expanding her knowledge and professional skills.
In addition to her leadership role at American Airlines, Sylvia plays in active part in advancing her community and the future of aviation. She serves on the board of the JFK Chamber of Commerce, She is also deeply committed to mentorship and education, actively participating in Girls in Aviation programs.
